The
Jim Kanas Trio plays
bluegrass, swing and folk music and a
mixture of country, jazz and western swing. Since their formation
in
1987, The Jim Kanas Trio has been thrilling audiences of all ages
throughout Northern Illinois. The group is defined by its signature
sound, tight three-part vocal harmonies with guitar, acoustic bass,
and either fiddle or mandolin, but don't be surprised if you hear
pedal-steel guitar, twin fiddles, banjo, harmonica and dobro.
Jim Kanas is an award
winning jazz guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and educator. He is
an Illinois Arts Council ArtsTour artist and featured artist on
"Arts Across Illinois", a Chicago, channel 11/PBS series.
Steve Strombeck is a fourth generation fiddler and
having learned bluegrass music from his father, is a folk musician
in the truest sense.
Steve plays fiddle, mandolin and sings in the band.
Roger Hintzsche plays acoustic bass, sings and arranges.
Roger holds two degrees in music and is an accomplished jazz bassist.
The Jim Kanas trio bridges genres and oral and written traditions
in American music.
