"It's
a beautiful CD
("Jimmy and the Swingers"),
beautiful musically,
beautiful guitar work.
No doubt through

Jim Kanas departs
from his familiar role that of multi-instrumentalist/singer and comes
full circle back to melodic single string jazz improvisation. As
a guitarist, Jim's career is seasoned by performances with outstanding
players including Howard Levy, Corky Siegel and Fareed Haque
to name a few. He has made numerous concert and radio appearances
throughout the Midwest. Steve Duchrow, Cultural Arts Director, Northern
Illinois University writes, "His music is a wonderful synthesis of
new and old styles that spring to life through his extraordinary music
talents." He later crossed paths with and sat in with Steve Goodman,
Vassar Clements, Jetho Burns, and others who have had a lasting impact
on his style. This album is driven by Jim's swing rhythm guitar playing. |

Mandolinist
Don Stiernberg is best known
for his long standing collaboration with the late Jethro Burns and
guest appearances with Special Consensus Bluegrass Band. Don has
been Chicago's
favorite sideman and is a highly sought after studio musician. His
album Blue Skies was nominated for a Grammy in the
bluegrass category in 1992. Don Stiernberg's jazz background shines
through on this recording unlike other projects. He remarks, "I
played like I never had before". Don is featured throughout this
recording and displays what seems to be an endless vocabulary of
fresh ideas.

Randy
Sabien is a celebrated jazz improvisation
oriented violinist who formed the Berklee School of Music string
department at age 21. He has appeared on numerous broadcasts, concerts
and showcases including Austin City Limits and A Prairie Home Companion.
Randy has performed in countless folk and jazz settings worldwide.
His first album was released on Chicago's Flying Fish Records and
Downbeat critics named him jazz artist" deserving wider recognition".
Randy's own group, the Fiddlehead Blues
Band, brings out his blues and rock influences but his playing on
this
album resonates in the spirit of
Stephan Grappelli.

Larry
Gray
is one the busiest bass players on the Chicago jazz scene. He has appeared
internationally with many leading names in jazz including Joe Pass,
Clark Terry and Mose Allison. Joseph Guastafeste, principal bassist
Symphony Orchestra writes, "Larry is one of the most gifted all around
musician I've ever met... his technique is phenomenal, mind-boggling."
This album offers a glimpse of Larry's uncommon musical curiosity.
